India: What's the Story?

India, a nation bursting with color and life, is one of Impact Nations' most beloved places on earth. We began working in Andhra Pradesh in 2007, where Journeys of Compassion soon led to transformation projects, like bio-sandwater filtration systems distribution and sewing school training for widows and women at risk.

Since 2007, we have seen 429 women at risk trained in sewing, given their very own sewing machines, and sent out equipped to run their own home-based businesses. These women, some of whom were once so filled with despair and shame that they contemplated ending their own lives, can now hold their heads up high knowing that they play an important role in the life of their communities. What is more, each woman received unconditional love from the school community, learned her own value, and became a follower of Jesus.

We have led six Journeys of Compassion to Andhra Pradesh, during which an estimated 10,000 people have received medical care at our outreach clinics. Innumerable people have heard the name of Jesus for the first time, received supernatural healing in his name, and decided to follow Him. Our latest Journey in January 2013, was an amazing time jam-packed with miracles and salvation. Watch some of the video testimonies from the Journey here. In addition, thanks to the generosity of a Journeyer, our partners there received sound equipment that enables them to run evangelistic meetings on an ongoing basis.

Through our partners in the south, we connected with leaders of the largest church planting movement in India. In May, Steve traveled to the north to meet with this group; on this trip, he saw with his own eyes how the message of Jesus is spreading like wildfire from house to house. Read a report from his trip here. On this trip, Steve visited Ray of Hope School in the slums of Chandigarh, and we have started a Child Sponsorship program there.

What's next?

This January, we are heading north on a Journey of Compassion to this Punjab region. God has opened a door for us in this largely non-evangelized area, filled with thousands of unreached people groups. We look forward to partnering with the house church movement there, not only in evangelism and supernatural healing ministry but also by providing clean water and medical care to those who desperately need it. One of the major areas of concern in this area is related to justice and equality for women, so we are also going with eyes to see how we can help empower women.

In the coming season, we plan to increase our involvement with Ray of Hope School in Chandigarh and to help children and families escape from the cycle of poverty by providing access to education.
